Our first project will cover creating book reviews for publication. This may sound unimportant at first, but book reviews serve an important purpose to both the author and to those who are looking for resources. If you have ever shopped at Amazon or other businesses like restaurants who use a rating system, you are aware of the power of reviews. Would you be more inclined to purchase something with a 5-star rating or a 3-star rating? Book reviewers provide an important service.
For the next several weeks on Friday, experienced book reviewers will provide you with guidelines, examples, and tips for writing book reviews. The first week in October, you will be provided with a link to submit your completed book review to Perspectives. Reviews approved by the editorial team will be published in the next issue. So, consider a book, E Book, or audio book that you have read or want to read related to nursing, faith community nursing, spiritual care, health ministry or a related topic and start reading! If you have questions or before you choose to review a devotional book, fiction, or if you want recommendations post here in the writing group or contact admin@westberginstitute.org with “Perspectives book reviews” in the subject line. We are looking forward to your reviews!

Even if you have never been published before, you are a writer. As stated in the previous post, your first project is to write a book review and submit for possible publication in Perspectives.
Your first assignment is to read an article explaining book reviews from one of the premier writer resources recommended throughout the academic world as one of the best places for writers to gain skills. Purdue University Online Writing Lab, known affectionately as OWL.

While you are on the OWL site, feel free to look around and notice that there are multiple citation choices. We will talk about these in next week's assignment. For now, read the article above so that you are familiar with book reviews. Then select a book title for your review and post it in the discussion. If you have questions or need book title suggestions, post here in the group or email admin@westberginstitute.orgShow more
